Ford has announced that they’re now accepting orders for a special NACS adapter designed to allow owners or lessees of F-150 Lightning or Mustang Mach-E vehicles to utilize Tesla’s Supercharger network in both Canada and the United States. The adapter is being offered free of charge to those enrolled in Ford’s BlueOval Charge Network, provided they order before June 30, 2024. After this date, the adapter will be available for purchase at $230 each, utilizing Tesla’s proprietary NACS outlet.
Ford is among several automakers planning to transition to Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) for their new electric vehicle models, starting around 2025. As part of this transition, Ford has committed to offering adapters for some existing electric models equipped with a CCS-style plug.
While other automakers have also pledged to offer adapters, Ford appears to be one of the first to make them available to customers. Ford CEO Jim Farley announced on social media that customers will soon be able to reserve a complimentary fast-charger adapter, aligning with Ford’s initial promise to provide them by spring 2024. Farley clarified that all current owners of Lightning and Mach-E models are eligible to receive an adapter, with reservations validated by their vehicle identification number (VIN). Each VIN is entitled to one adapter, with Ford covering the shipping costs.
Inquiries to Ford regarding whether the adapters will be standard or optional for new electric F-150 or Mustang SUV purchases yielded no definitive response, with more details promised at a later date.
